FAQs about rainbow call companions
If you’d like to be matched with someone based on a specific characteristic, please let one of our team know. We’ll always try our best, but we can’t promise that it’ll always be possible.
Absolutely, if you are happy to be matched to more than one older person.
Rainbow call companions is currently open to LGBT+ people only as part of our approach to ensure that the service is a truly safe space for our older people. We are hoping to be able to diversify the service in the future. If you are not a member of the LGBT+ community and would like to support older people over the phone, please consider joining our call companions service.
"It is my personal commitment that we need to reach older people from every background and every walk of life and to work to end loneliness for all. Finding people who have led multiple different lives, finding people who have long experienced discrimination, and finding ways to end the chronic loneliness and social isolation for all are crucial to our work as we move forward. We as a charity have to try harder to open our arms to everyone who needs us." – Meryl Davies, CEO 2018 to 2023
Please take a look at our training. Whilst this service is specifically for LGBT+ people, the topics of conversation do not need to be LGBT+ specific. They can be whatever the older person is happy to talk about.
