Bringing generations together
At Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly), we're committed to fighting loneliness so that people can have social lives and friendship groups however old they are.
Over 1.4 million older people in the UK suffer from loneliness. Half a million of them say they go five or six days without seeing or speaking to anyone.
We’re the only charity solely committed to tackling this problem by helping older people to re-engage with their communities through regular face-to-face contact, giving them a lifeline of friendship.
How we do it
At Re-engage, we work within your local community to set up regular social gatherings for small groups of people over 75, on their own, and hoping to find new ways to get out and about that suit them at this time of life.
Our vision is a world where no one is ever too old to make friends and enjoy social interaction.
We can’t increase our impact without your support, so whether you can donate, raise funds or let more people know about us, we hope you’ll accompany us on our journey.

Are you aged 75 or over, living alone and finding it difficult to get out and about? You’re not alone – and we’re here to help.
Volunteering with us can be an incredibly rewarding and useful experience. Be part of the team that’s making life better for the oldest people in our communities.
Do you know an older person who lives alone and is feeling isolated? Whether they’re a friend, relative, neighbour or patient, we’re here to help.
Here’s how your donation could help us
£5 could allow us to give our invaluable volunteers essential training and support
£15 could help to bring friendship and laughter to an older person in need of company on Christmas Day
£50 could enable us to introduce new activities, such as reading groups or walking cricket groups to complement our Sunday tea parties
£120 could pay for an emergency fund for one group, to make sure the monthly event can still take place even if a volunteer is suddenly unable to make it
Become a supporter by giving monthly or make a single donation online.

Contact the Elderly is now Re-engage
It is a big decision, changing a name. But when it becomes clear that a charity’s name is getting in the way of achieving its goals then the decision, though big, should be easy.
