FAQs about communications

Communicating with people in my group

Lots of our Re-engage volunteers use social media apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom, and Skype to communicate with other volunteers in their group, and this is a great way to keep everyone in the loop.

You could set up a WhatsApp group or a closed Facebook group for your call companions for reminders and feedback.

(Please note: it’s important that volunteers don’t share private information about the older people (including their phone numbers) in social media groups. Please see our confidentiality guidance for more information about this.)

No. Our first priority is the safety of our older people. Therefore, for safeguarding reasons you must not add them to your Facebook friends or any other social media network.

If you have allowed Facebook to search for contacts within your phone's address book it's possible you could see a friend suggestion of the person you call if they are on Facebook too. We would ask that you don't become Facebook friends with them.

You can of course use video calling to communicate with other volunteers in your group, individually or as a group. Please make sure you agree this with your volunteers prior to video calling.

However we don't allow the use of video calling to communicate with older people at the moment. We are looking at other communication options in the future to include video calling.

We'd love for you to share photos from your tea party groups, so we've put together some guidance about how you can make the the most of social media and what you need to consider when sharing photos of your guests.

In line with our safeguarding, boundaries and GDPR guidelines we ask that volunteers and older people do not share their personal email or home addresses.

Complaints, suggestions & keeping in touch

If you would like to contact us with a suggestion, please get in touch with us using our online contact form.

If any of the contact details that you’ve provided to Re-engage have changed, we’d be grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible using our volunteer change of details form.

We're sorry to hear that you are not receiving any correspondence from us. All Re-engage volunteers should automatically receive Re-engage Matters, our monthly volunteer enewsletter which features relevant news, stories and guidance.

Please do check your spam folder, as our emails might have ended up there. You could also add us as to your safe sender list (your email provider should have instructions on how to do this).

If you still can’t find anything, please let us know by completing our online contact form and we will look into this.

We take complaints extremely seriously and we're grateful to people who take the time to tell us when we're falling short of our high standards.

Please see our complaints procedure for more details on how to give us this feedback about if we are falling short.

Whenever you contact Re-engage your query will be handled by one of our friendly team who, just like our volunteers and older people, are based all around the UK.

Every time you contact Re-engage we create a record in our database. Even though you may not always speak to the same person each time, anyone in our team will be able to see your records and will be able to help you with your query.

There are many ways you can raise awareness in your local area and help us to reach more potential older people.

You can post on your social media pages (please get in touch with us if you would like some images, infographics or video links to include), and you can order leaflets by emailing us on info@reengage.org.uk and distribute these to local libraries, GP surgeries, and other community venues.

You can even ask us to put together a press release to share with your local newspapers and local radio stations.
